This tower is called also "Torrione" and was built after the restoration of the Barletta Castle by the military architect Evangelista Menga da Copertino (around 1540).
It is 12.67 m in height on three levels, and was used as a warehouse for artillery materials. This structure dates back to the 16th century and doubled as an observatory and defence post against Turkish incursions. The tower, along with the Chapel and the first sheds were the first nucleus of the "Saline di Barletta" village, a denomination that the municipality kept up to 1879. Nowadays Torre delle Saline is the site of the Contemporary Art Gallery “Francesco Galante Civera".
The Municipal Contemporary art gallery “Francesco Galante Civera", holds interesting paintings, sculptures, monochrome of famous Pugliese, Lucchese, Neapolitan, Veneto, Lombard and Egyptian artists.
Two valuable paintings by Francesco Galante
Senior, a painter of the Neapolitan School are kept here.
There are also remarkable reproductions of works by famous painters like Raphael, Mosaccio, and Guido Reni. The Gallery is located within Torre delle Saline.
