Flamingos are no doubt more famous for their beautiful plumage than for their cry.
Their vocalisations range from a low muttering, during feeding, to a kind of grunt, which acts as a menace. In flight, they often give out a gooselike cry, low and nasal. To make up for their insignificant cry, flamingos can boast a beautiful flight.
They take off after a short run on the surface of the water. They always fly in formation, but this changes from the typical V to long waving lines. The sight of a flight of flamingos over a pool at sunset, pink against pink, is an unforgettable spectacle.
